Just 24 hours had passed between news breaking of Takumi Minamino's imminent arrival at Liverpool and the announcement that Jürgen Klopp had signed a new contract committing his future to the club until 2024.
On Friday, Klopp admitted that an important aspect of his new deal would be the long-term stability it provides to prospective transfer targets, with players logically being more likely to choose Liverpool in the knowledge that a manager of Klopp's calibre will be there for the next four years at least, as opposed to just two.
And having barely spent a penny last summer, there is ample reason to believe Liverpool will make several major acquisitions over the next few transfer windows as part of a two-strand approach which has already started to fall into place.
Whereas in 2018, Liverpool brought in the likes of Alisson Becker and Fabinho for big money as obvious upgrades to the starting XI (with Virgil van Dijk also signed in January), the last summer window saw the focus switch towards succession planning with the arrivals of teenage duo Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott.
Although many questioned Klopp's decision not to bring in one or two more established names to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign, it was clear that the manager was more than content with the options at his disposal, and thus the transfer approach was instead centred around youngsters who would make a handful of appearances in the League Cup this season, but would predominantly feature for the U23s to continue their development.
This is where Liverpool's latest transfer link fits in, with a report from 90min.com suggesting the Reds are front of the queue to land Coventry City left-back Sam McCallum, who has featured 12 times in League One this season and attracted the attention of a host of Premier League clubs with his performances.
